What Is Dell Streak ?

Dell plans to unleash the Streak, a hybrid tablet/smartphone device, on the U.S. market later this week.

The computer is now accepting pre-sale registrations, and will allow customers who register to pre-order the device on Thursday, August 12. The Streak will then be available to the public on Friday, August 13.

But what exactly is the Dell Streak -- is it more of a tablet, or more of a smartphone? And, more importantly, should you buy one if you're in the market for a new mobile phone?

The Streak is an Android-based device that's smaller than your average tablet, but bigger than any other smartphone available today.

It sports a 5-inch touch-screen and measures 6 inches wide by 3.1 inches tall by .4 inches thick.

It's capable of making voice calls over AT&T's cellular network, and can access data over the carrier's 3G network or via Wi-Fi wireless networks.

Dell will be selling the Streak, but is offering it with cellular service from AT&T. If you opt to sign a new two-year service contract with AT&T,

you can get the Streak for $299.99. If you don't want to sign the AT&T contract, the Streak will cost you $549.99.
