Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says there is no truth to the persistent rumors that the folks at the social network are building a mobile phone.
Despite his denials, rumors of an upcoming Android-based Facebook phone continue to gain steam.

The rumors of a Facebook phone gained ground last weekend, when TechCrunch published a report claiming that Facebook was secretly working on a phone.

The rumors of a Facebook phone gained ground last weekend, when TechCrunch published a report claiming that Facebook was secretly working on a phone.
The report, which was based on a "source who has knowledge of the project," claimed that the project was "unknown even to most Facebook staff."

Facebook, however, flatly denied TechCrunch's report, saying in a statement: "The story is not accurate. Our approach has always been to make all phones and apps more social, not build a phone."

Still, the rumors refuse to die, thanks in part to a Bloomberg report published on Wednesday. The Bloomberg story says that Facebook is, indeed, working with handset maker INQ Mobile Ltd. on two phone that would likely be carried by AT&T.

Bloomberg's report, which cited "three people familiar with the matter," says the phones are due to be introduced in Europe in the first half of 2011, and will come to the U.S. in the second half of the year.
Facebook again denied the reports, inviting TechCrunch to meet with Zuckerberg himself.

He told TechCrunch: "Our whole strategy is not to build any specific device or integration or anything like that. Because we're not trying to compete with Apple or the Droid or any other hardware manufacturer for that matter."
Still, rumors of a Facebook phone just won't go away. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
